As ’n kind ’n vloekwoord laat,
help dit om 'n bietjie te praat.
Maar om daaroor net te lag,
maak die grap, later, ’n plaag.

Aan ons is ’n opdrag gegee
om te wandel in God se weë.
Deur jou kind te tug en reg te leer,
sal hy deur sy dade God ook eer.

Nota: Dit is interessant om te sien dat die Bybel ons aanraai om nie die roede te spaar nie. Dit bevorder nooit misbruik nie - dit spreek van liefdevolle, gebalanseerde tugtiging. Geen wonder ons sien soveel probleme in die wêreld vandag nie, aangesien ons nie meer toegelaat word om kinders op dié manier reg te help nie. Strike my child -
That’ll be the day!
But he’ll go off the rails,
And the devil will have his way.

So, bend the young tree
While it’s still young and supple.

I was raised
To respect my parents.
They pruned me wisely -
Yes, the rod showed me the way.

So, bend the young tree
While it’s still growing.

When a child lets a curse word slip,
It helps to stop and talk it through.
But if you laugh and let it slide,
That joke becomes a problem too.

So, bend the young tree

We’ve been given a sacred call:
To walk in God’s pure ways.
Correct your child and teach him right - 
And through his life, give God the praise.

Note: It’s interesting to note that the Bible tells us not to spare the rod. It never promotes abuse - it speaks of loving, measured discipline. No wonder we face so many problems in the world today, since we’re no longer allowed to correct children in this way.
